Dynamometers to measure power or torque

Measuring power or torque is important to ensure that machine is working properly and in a required force. A type of device is used to measure force, moment of force or torque or power. This device is known as a Dynamometer. Generally, it is called as ‘dyno’ for short.
Let’s understand how this dynamometer device works. An engine produces power that can be calculated by simultaneously measuring a torque and rotational speed (RPM). This device is used to measure power produced b by other motors and other rotating prime movers as well. By measuring or keeping a check on power produced or force of moment, one can have control over work process. Control by dynamometer on work process and on power-production by machines and engines are important to manage proper work-process. Control by dynamometers on power or force can be done to ensure there is no damage to engine or machine. This device is used for other purposes as well that are beyond simple power and torque measurements. One important thing to consider during use of this device is that one needs to keep checking wiring with dynamometers over a period of time. It is used as a part of a test-bed for a variety of engine development activities. It can be used as a calibration of engine management controllers, detailed investigations into combustion behavior, and tribology.
